AREX (Airport Railroad)
AREX is a railway line that connects downtown Seoul with Incheon International Airport and Gimpo Airport. AREX opened in March of 2007 with service running between Incheon International Airport and Gimpo Airport. 

AREX operates both All Stop Trains and Express Trains; the All Stop trains stop at every station while the Express trains run non-stop between Seoul and Incheon International Airport.

 


Timetable

Both Express trains and All Stop trains run between Incheon International Airport and Seoul Station. Express trains run every 20-40 minutes and take about 45 minutes between each station. All Stop trains run every 15 minutes and take about 60 minutes. Only All Stop trains are available between Gimpo Airport and Seoul, which take about 20 minutes between each station.

Fares

The fare for the express train between Incheon International Airport and Seoul Station is normally 14,700 won. However, the fare will be reduced to 8,000 won until the end of 2014. In addition, if you take KTX and AREX, the fare will be reduced even further to 6,900.

The fare for the All Stop train between Incheon International Airport and Seoul Station is 3,950 won, and between Gimpo Airport and Seoul Station is 1,250 won.


Boarding Locations


● Incheon International Airport Station

Incheon International Airport StationAREX can be boarded at Incheon International Airport Station, located within the airport’s Transportation Center, directly opposite the airport entrance.

The easiest way to get to AREX from the airport is to take the escalator or elevator down to the B1 floor and follow the sign that says “Airport Railroad.” In the basement there is a 3-minute moving walkway that leads to the AREX entrance. Ticket kiosks are available on either side of the entrance.

● Gimpo International Airport Station

Gimpo International Airport StationIn addition to the AREX railway line, Gimpo International Airport Station connects with subway lines 5 and 9. To get to the station from the Gimpo International arrivals terminal, follow the signs down to the B1 floor. The moving walk leads to the station.

 

● Seoul Station

Not only is Seoul Station a major transportation hub that connects the city of Seoul with the rest of the country, it is the home of City Air Terminal, where flight arrivals and departures can be processed. (Only Asiana Airlines, Korean Air and Jeju Air passengers flying out of Incheon International Airport can complete departure procedures at Seoul Station City Air Terminal.) Passengers can take an express train directly to Incheon International Airport after completing departure procedures at SCAT. Korea City Air Terminal is open from 5:20am to 7pm, but arriving 3 hours before departure time is highly recommended.


Riding the AREX

Tickets for the Express trains or All Stop commuter trains can be purchased with either cash or a T-money card from touch-screen ticket machines. Transferring to the subway is free with a T-money card (single-use T-money cards are available at Incheon International Airport Station).
